Pueblo Montano Revisited

I've learned more since the previous two posts. Pueblo Montaño was the name of the fire. The sculptor is Mark Chavez, a chainsaw artist -- and a firefighter who worked on the fire itself.

Fire in the Bosque, 2003

Photo of the fire I mentioned in the previous post. I shot this from many miles away, in Albuquerque's foothills. Note how, in the lower right, you can actually see the glow of the flames. This fire was especially heartbreaking because a) it came right on the heels of another fire in the bosque and b) this one was set deliberately, by arsonists.

Pueblo Montano

Carved eagle at Pueblo Montaño. There was a forest fire in this area several years ago; I understand the carvings are a sort of tribute to the bosque and its inhabitants.

Pipevine Swallowtail

I was at the Butterfly Pavilion the other day and saw this fabulous butterfly. The people who work there told me it was a male pipevine swallowtail.

Clouds Over the Sandias

Some really wild and woolly clouds rolled in over the Sandias late this afternoon.

Haunted House & Trumpet Vine

The building appears old and abandoned... but the murals are beautiful. The light wasn't what I might have wanted it to be, so I couldn't get a decent shot of the words across the front, tying it all together: "In the haunted house of life art is the only stair that doesn't creak."

Painted Lady Butterfly

The butterfly is either a Painted Lady or an American Painted Lady (I'm not sure what the difference is). The photo was taken in Santa Fe a few days ago near Canyon Road.

In the Jemez

Along the road to the Gilman Tunnels, in the Jemez.
I think this may be called Guadalupe Mesa.
