Snow Blossoms

snow on pink tree blossoms
It seems that these pink blossoms trigger snow each year. We've had no snow all winter in Albuquerque until this month -- now we've had two snows in eight days. On another note, NewMexicoPhotos is in the process of moving, and we may be without internet access for a while. So the posts may be few and far between for a couple of weeks.

Snow in the Foothills

the wildlife blind at elena gallegos picnic area
Finally, at long last, it snowed in Albuquerque yesterday! Never mind that we're just a few days away from the official first day of spring -- better late than never! (It was great just to get some moisture.)

Looking up at the Kimo Theatre in downtown Albuquerque. The interior is also quite beautiful -- a combination of Pueblo Revival and Art Deco influences.

Signs of Spring

A flowering tree in Old Town Albuquerque. Despite the fact that we never truly had a winter this year, I'm relieved to see that spring is on its way.

An absolutely fascinating window I stumbled across this afternoon in Old Town Albuquerque (how old do you think that Open sign is?).

Sandia Hairstreak Redux

sandia hairstreak butterfly
A Sandia Hairstreak butterfly (Callophrys mcfarlandi) as it sits on a blade of beargrass. Although the common wisdom is that beargrass is exactly where these butterflies like to hang out, yesterday was the first time I actually saw one there. (You can see more photos of New Mexican butterflies here and here.)
